Ahead of PM’s visit, Pak shelling kills 5 including a BSF constable
Jammu, May 18 (HS): Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu on Saturday (May 19), at least five people, including a BSF jawan were killed after Pakistan Rangers targeted Indian forward posts along the International Border (IB) in Jammu’s RS Pura sector and Arnia sub-sector. The BSF constable was identified as 27-year-old Sita Ram Upadhyay of the 192 battalion. He was hit by enemy fire at Jabowal on Thursday night. He was shifted to GMC Jammu where he was declared brought dead. A couple, Tarsem and his wife Manjeet Kaur, were killed in the shelling when a mortar exploded in their house in Chandu Chak village in RS Pura sector. Two more civilians, who were grievously injured in Pakistan’s shelling of Trewa village in Arnia sub-sector, were declared dead at a government medical college and hospital in Jammu while 14 civilians has also received injures in different parts of the area and they are under treatment in GMC, Jammu and locals hospitals. The schools within a five kilometer radius of the border have also been closed as a preventive measure and people have left these villages and shifted their families to safer places. The IG, BSF Ram Awtar (Jammu Frontier) told media that forces are giving appropriate response of Pakistan shelling as it’s not new for Pakistan to target civilians and BSF as they''ve done it before as well. He said, “Appropriate response has been given to them and you can find how much damaged they got by watching their channels. We are also running an anti tunnel operation from several areas and it’s on.” Meanwhile, Health Minister and State BJP Chief also visited the hospital and meet the injured in the Pakistan shelling.
