Three suspected drug smugglers held with Rs 20 lakh
Shillong,March 16(HS): Three persons were arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) troops from Lalghat village in West Khasi Hills district for their alleged involvement in smuggling of a drug called ‘yaba’ tablets, BSF sources informed on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off regarding the smuggling of yaga pill, the BSF troops rushed to the spot and apprehended the three individuals identified as — Smith Ch. Sangma (22), Purno R. Marak (24) and Amiston T Sangma, all hailing from Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills. It was informed that Amiston T Sangma was ferrying the other two from Gumaghat to Rongdu village on his bike bearing No. ML-06-4839 (Bajaj discover).BSF troops also recovered Rs 20 lakh along with 4 mobile phones from their possession. According to the BSF officials, the trio revealed that they had received Rs. 20 lakh from Shillong and in this connection they had halted on March 13 in a hotel at Police Bazar area of Shillong. The purpose of the money is also yet to be confirmed.“BSF has stepped up its special drive against the smugglers and intensified its operations on Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent nefarious design of trans-border criminal to maintain tranquility in bordering areas of Meghalaya state as well as illegal transport of money keeping in view of the forthcoming Parliamentary election,” said the BSF official.
